The junior school went back in time yesterday. We travelled back to 1863 and found out what school life was like. We experienced what it was like to be in classroom in 1863 and had a visiting teacher "Miss Williams" (Rachel Checketts from Central Museum) take our class. She was very strict. We made our own butter and make jam sandwiches which we wrapped up in newspaper. We played old fashioned games like hopscotch, tag, pass the glove and remember the objects.
Fantastic photos Junior School. I so wish I could have stayed and be transported back to 1863 with you all as it looked like a lot of fun! What did you like most? And what don't you think you would have enjoyed about school in the 1860s?

It looks like you had a lot of fun dressing up and going back to 1863. How did you make the butter? From the Pukeko team
ReplyDeleteTo make butter we put some cream in a jar with an old fashioned peg. We shook it until it turned yellow.
